Authorities in two villages in Dagestan's Gergebil District warned residents of the risk of a natural dam breaking and urged them to evacuate. This was informed by the district administration's press service, APA reports.
"Urgent warning for residents of the villages of Gergebil and Kikuni. <...> Due to a rockfall in the Laksky District and the formation of a landslide lake, a threat of emergency has arisen. There is a risk of a natural dam breaking and a sharp rise in water levels in the riverbeds downstream. To ensure public safety, we urge everyone to maintain social distancing. Being near river banks is strictly prohibited. Evacuation is underway. Residents of houses located close to the river floodplain are advised to temporarily vacate their homes and move to safer areas with relatives or temporary accommodation centers," the statement reads.
