The UN should continue to retain its central role in the world order, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said during his speech at the SCO Plus meeting, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Bishkek reports.

He said that for eight decades, the UN has served as a unique platform for dialogue, diplomacy, and cooperation.

The Russian President noted that the UN’s existing potential has not yet been fully realized: “Efforts should be made to increase the effectiveness of the organization’s activities and expand the representation of countries of the Global South and East in its bodies, including the Security Council. The UN should be adapted to changing realities and the fundamental changes taking place in global politics and the economy.”

Vladimir Putin emphasized that the UN should not become an organization that advances the interests of any particular country or group of states.

“The UN should retain its function as the main mechanism for reconciling interests. There is no other such mechanism in the world. The UN Charter should continue to remain the primary source of international law,” the Russian President said.
