Putin signs law criminalizing denial of Soviet people’s genocide

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law introducing criminal liability for denying the genocide of the Soviet people, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

According to the law, up to five years of imprisonment is envisaged for the destruction, damage, or desecration of burial sites of victims of the Soviet people’s genocide, as well as monuments and other memorial structures located in Russia or abroad.

The law also establishes up to three years of imprisonment for denying or justifying the genocide of the Soviet people and for insulting the memory of its victims.

It should be noted that the relevant bill was adopted by the Russian State Duma on March 24 this year.
