Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the statements of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Putin spoke about this at a press conference held in Bishkek after the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), APA's Moscow bureau reports.
"I don't want to spoil the recent past, but it all started with the Karabakh problem," the Russian President said.
According to Putin, the Armenian leadership recognized Karabakh as Azerbaijani territory by signing the relevant document in Prague.
"From that moment on, our position on this issue began to take on a dual character. Should we have interfered in the internal political affairs of Azerbaijan? The West, European countries - they all said that Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan," Putin stressed.
The Russian President noted that this development of events and the known decision of the Armenian leadership also have positive sides.
“We can turn the page and move forward. Now, without these conflicts, we can settle people in new places of residence, unblock infrastructure, start a new life in the economy, open borders for investments, and so on. In fact, there are many positive points,” Putin said.
Putin also said that he had invited Pashinyan to Moscow and would hold detailed discussions with him on Armenia’s future in the Eurasian Economic Union.
