Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a press conference on Saturday that the United States caused global food prices to soar when it handed out fiscal stimulus payments to the population during the COVID-19 pandemic, APA reports citing Teletrader.
"They started sweeping food away from world markets as if with a vacuum cleaner, and then prices skyrocketed," he claimed.
Meanwhile, he said food prices "grew a little" after Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative earlier this month. He added Russia intends to share part of its increased income from food exports with the poorest countries and supply a volume of food for free.
