Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described Ukrainian strikes on vessels in the Caspian Sea as "extremely dangerous," APA reports.

Peskov told reporters that such attacks represent another escalation of tensions.

"This is extremely dangerous. It is another round of escalation. We must continue to fight the Kyiv regime," Peskov said.

He added that Ukraine's strikes on vessels in the Caspian Sea indicate a trend toward expanding the geographical scope of the hostilities.

On July 25, Iran accused Ukraine of striking an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea. Iran's Foreign Ministry said one person was killed and another injured in the attack and handed a protest note to Ukraine's chargé d'affaires.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, said the Ukrainian Armed Forces had targeted vessels that, according to him, were being used to transport military cargo between Russia and Iran.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in a phone call that the attack on the Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea would not go unanswered.
