“On the development of bilateral relations between Armenia and Russia. This has already happened, because trains are already coming from Russia to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan, which, in my opinion, is a truly historic event. As you noted, new opportunities are opening up,” said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, APA reports, citing Armenian media.

“An agenda has already been formed for the restoration of some other railway sections on the territory of our country. We are talking, in particular, about the Ijevan, Yeraskh (Arazdayan - ed.) and Akhurik directions. These are railway lines connecting Armenia with Azerbaijan, its main territory, Nakhchivan, and Türkiye, against the backdrop of a fairly active political process. At the same time, it cannot be said that political decisions have already been made regarding the opening of these railways at the moment, but in my opinion, the situation has reached the stage necessary for the start of preparatory work,” Pashinyan noted.

It should be noted that last week Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he had asked his Russian partners to urgently restore a number of railway lines. According to the information, this concerns the railway line from Yerasx (Arazdayan) to the border with Nakhchivan, as well as the railway line from Akhurik to the border with Türkiye. Pashinyan also noted that he plans to raise the issue related to the Gazakh–Ijevan railway section and emphasized his hope that the Russian partners would implement this request as soon as possible.
