Pashinyan: Armenia's railway dispute may be referred to arbitration

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the dispute over the country's railway could be referred to arbitration.

According to Armenian media, Pashinyan made the remarks during a briefing with journalists.

"This issue must be resolved. There is no alternative to resolving it. I want this to be absolutely clear to everyone," he said.

The prime minister noted that the railway issue was not discussed during his recent phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but stressed that Yerevan's position remains unchanged.

"This is our property, and Armenia must be able to use its railway as it sees fit," Pashinyan said.

According to him, Armenia will first seek to resolve the issue through negotiations.

"However, a situation may arise where we formally acknowledge that a legal dispute exists between the parties and then refer the matter to arbitration for consideration," Pashinyan added.

Recall that Pashinyan had previously stated that Armenia had lost its competitive advantage in the process of reopening regional transport links because the country's railway is operated by Russia.
