The U.S. Navy seized the vessel “Marinera,” sailing under the Russian flag, on January 7 at approximately 15:00 Moscow time, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing the Russian Ministry of Transport.
It was stated that contact with the vessel has been lost. On December 24, 2025, the “Marinera” received temporary permission to sail under the Russian state flag in accordance with Russian legislation and international law.
“According to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, freedom of navigation applies in the waters of the high seas, and no state has the right to use force against vessels registered under the jurisdiction of other states,” the statement by the Russian Ministry of Transport said.
