Number of archbishops gathering around Pashinyan to remove Karekin II from office is increasing

The number of archbishops joining the process of renewal of the Armenian Church is increasing, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan posted on his Telegram account, APA reports.

According to him, the number of archbishops joining the process of renewal of the Armenian Church has reached 16.

It should be noted that some time ago, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, together with 10 bishops who are opposed to the current Catholicos, announced the establishment of a coordination council for the renewal of the Armenian Church.

The document adopted by the Council envisages the promotion of reforms in the church, the removal of the current head of the church from office, the election of a temporary leader in place of the Catholicos, the adoption of the church's charter, and the election of the Catholicos of All Armenians in accordance with the established procedure.

After that, a religious procession was held in the streets of Yerevan with the participation of a large number of people under the leadership of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Pashinyan stated that certain forces are trying to turn the Church into a foothold for actions directed against the Republic of Armenia. He declared that they would not allow this and that Catholicos Garegin II would step down just like Serzh Sargsyan.
