NATO reconnaissance aircraft flies over Kaliningrad again

06 October 2026 13:10 (UTC +04:00)

A NATO reconnaissance aircraft has once again been observed conducting a circular flight over the Kaliningrad region, TASS reported, citing a source in the European Union’s air traffic control services, APA’s Russia bureau reports.

It should be noted that tensions between Russia and NATO around the Kaliningrad region have recently been observed. Military exercises conducted by North Atlantic Alliance countries in areas bordering the region, as well as statements by European officials about plans to blockade Kaliningrad in the event of a possible war with Russia, have prompted a strong protest from official Moscow.

Russia previously warned Europe through its ambassadors in Brussels, London and Dublin that if Kaliningrad were blockaded, Russia would use all types of weapons in its arsenal, including nuclear weapons. The Kremlin later directly threatened Europe that a blockade of Kaliningrad would lead Russia to resort to nuclear weapons.
