The Russian Foreign Ministry has commented on the Armenian Parliament’s approval of the country’s "process of joining the European Union," APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova addressed the issue during a briefing, emphasizing that the matter is not about political ambitions but rather the legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as tariff systems governing interactions between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU).
Zakharova stated that the legal frameworks and tariff systems of these organizations are mutually exclusive.
“Of course, this is Armenia’s sovereign choice, but the responsibility for explaining the full consequences of their planned steps to the population lies not with the Eurasian Economic Union, but with the current Armenian government. To complete the picture, it is also necessary to recall examples from recent history of how such steps have resulted in,” Zakharova concluded.
