Moscow to issue special ID cards with QR codes to migrants
# 29 November 2024 19:34 (UTC +04:00)

Special ID cards with personal information and QR codes will be implemented for migrants in Moscow, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

A new control measure in the form of a certificate will be introduced for migrants in the Russian capital. The document will include all necessary information: full name, date of birth, gender, citizenship, signature sample, patent number, and validity period.

The ID card will be a plastic card with an electronic chip and QR code. Due to the presence of the QR code, it will be impossible to forge the card as all information will be stored in the Ministry of Internal Affairs' servers.

The innovation will help the police quickly identify foreigners and also check mandatory procedures like fingerprinting. The card will also assist in tracking down migrants who have committed crimes. It will be issued to all foreigners aged 14 and over at the Multifunctional Migration Center.

Note that from December 1, biometric control will be implemented at Moscow airports for all foreigners, except for Belarusian citizens. Based on the results of the experiment, changes will be made to the legislation.
