Moldova is not considering the expulsion of Russia’s ambassador from the country, Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi said in an interview with the Golos Bessarabii television channel.
According to him, relations between Moldova and Russia have not yet reached the point where ambassadors would be recalled or expelled.
“It is clear that such a tough step would trigger either a symmetrical or asymmetrical response. Therefore, we must take into account the complexity of the regional security situation and carefully weigh our actions accordingly,” Popșoi stressed.
It should be noted that relations between Chișinău and Moscow began to cool after Maia Sandu and her Party of Action and Solidarity came to power in 2021. Relations deteriorated further in 2022 after Moldova joined sanctions against Russia and expelled dozens of Russian diplomats from the country.
