Russia is working towards the opening of communications in the South Caucasus, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said during a briefing today, where she commented on the recent statement by Mger Grigoryan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, regarding the cessation of meetings of the trilateral commission on unblocking regional communications involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Russian Federation, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

She noted that Russia is ready to provide comprehensive assistance to Baku and Yerevan in this process: "We have said that the opening of communications will benefit the entire region."

Zakharova also recalled the statement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, who said, "The opening of economic and transport communications in the South Caucasus is only possible with Russia's participation."
