The Kremlin is reconsidering its approach to internet restrictions amid concerns over a potential decline in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rating, Bloomberg reports.
According to the agency’s sources, efforts by the Federal Security Service (FSB) to tighten control have prompted some senior officials to warn about the political and economic risks of restricting internet access.
A source said this could slow down repressive measures and allow Telegram to continue operating in Russia.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.
