Marlen Mamataliyev has been elected as the new Speaker of the Kyrgyz parliament, APA reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

83 MPs took part in the secret ballot.

Seventy-seven MPs voted in favor of his candidacy, five voted against it, and one vote was declared invalid.

Speaker of the Kyrgyz parliament Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu has announced his resignation, APA reports, citing Interfax.

“In connection with the political events taking place in the country, I would like to state that I serve not one or two individuals, but the people, the state, and the parliament. I have decided to resign of my own free will. This is a personal decision that I made without any external pressure,” Turgunbek uulu said.

According to reports, discussions about the speaker’s resignation began after the dismissal of Kamchybek Tashiev, Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security.
