Advisor to the Russian President and Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change of the Russian Federation Ruslan Edelgeriev suggested inviting Donald Trump to the COP29 climate conference to be held in Baku, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
According to Edelgeriev, COP29 could be an opportunity to find out from Trump at COP29 whether the United States of America will remain a party to the Paris Agreement.
"We have an upcoming international event to be held in Azerbaijan. This is a major UN event. Let Azerbaijan invite Trump to COP29. We could then speak with him and ask if he wants to withdraw from the Paris Agreement," Edelgeriyev stated.
Note that the Paris Agreement is an international treaty on climate change. In June 2017, Trump announced his decision to withdraw the U.S. from this agreement. Trump believes that it redistributes American wealth in favor of other countries and could result in the loss of 2.7 million jobs in the U.S. by 2025.
