Russia will take appropriate military-technical measures in response to the militarization of Greenland, said Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a government hour at the State Duma, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
He noted that “Of course, if Greenland is militarized and military capabilities directed against Russia are created there, we will take appropriate countermeasures, including military-technical measures.”
At the same time, Lavrov recalled Russian President Vladimir Putin's position that Moscow believes that the Greenland issue is currently "not of direct concern" to Russia.
“The United States, Denmark, and Greenland should resolve this themselves, of course, taking into account the views of the residents of the largest island, whom official Copenhagen has treated quite harshly as second-class citizens for years and decades. There are enough facts on this issue. But our main position is that the Arctic should remain a zone of peace and cooperation,” the head of Russia’s Foreign Ministry concluded.
