"Trump's initiatives are really aimed at eliminating the causes of the Ukrainian conflict," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a roundtable discussion on the situation in Ukraine at the ambassadorial level, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, in Europe, the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict are not being discussed: "Europe is not interested in eliminating the root causes of the conflict and creating lasting peace."
Lavrov stressed that Europe wants a ceasefire in Ukraine so that it can catch its breath and restart the conflict: "Western Europe thinks about a ceasefire only so that it can catch its breath and once again prepare Zelensky and his regime for war against the Russian Federation. European countries are simply trying to buy time to continue military operations against Russia, to fill Kyiv with weapons and money."
Sergey Lavrov added that from the very beginning of the Ukrainian crisis - since 2014 - Russia has done everything in its power to resolve it: "In December 2021, Russia had no intention other than a peaceful solution. Russia launched a special military operation only after it realized that the West had given Kyiv carte blanche to wage war against Donbass."
