Lavrov and Araghchi discussed situation around Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the situation in Iran over the phone following the US and Israeli strikes, emphasizing that they have grave consequences for the entire Middle East, APA reports.

"The development of the situation in the region resulting from the unprovoked armed aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran was discussed. It was emphasized that such actions undermine the fundamental norms of international law and entail grave consequences for the entire Middle East. This position was clearly reiterated by the Russian representative at the UN Security Council meeting," the statement reads.

The Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov reaffirmed his principled position in favor of de-escalation, abandoning the use of force, and transitioning to a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict, as well as Russia's readiness to fully support this. "The priority of taking measures to ensure the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure in all countries of the region was also emphasized," the Foreign Ministry added.
