The Kremlin has welcomed the declared ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran and expressed hope that direct contacts between the parties will take place in the near future, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, the Kremlin received the news of the US-Iran ceasefire with satisfaction.
Peskov noted that the Kremlin had previously emphasized the importance of quickly returning to diplomacy amid the escalation in the Middle East.
“Russia hopes that the United States and Iran will defend their interests at the negotiating table,” the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
Peskov also spoke about the Ukraine settlement, noting that the processes in Ukraine and Iran are only indirectly related.
He added that the Kremlin hopes American negotiators will have more opportunities in the near future to work on the Ukraine settlement.
Peskov said Russia highly appreciates the peace efforts of Trump and American negotiators regarding Ukraine.
