Kremlin says Putin informed about attempted assassination of Russian general

“Information regarding the attempted assassination of Russian Ministry of Defense Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev is being reported to President Vladimir Putin,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

“The security services are currently doing their work and, of course, reporting to the president,” the Kremlin spokesperson emphasized.

Note that the attempted assassination of Vladimir Alekseyev, First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces, occurred in northwestern Moscow. An unknown individual shot him. The wounded general has been hospitalized.

According to investigators, on February 6, 2026, an unidentified person fired several shots at a Ministry of Defense employee in a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway in Moscow and then fled the scene.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 105 (“attempted intentional murder”), and Part 1 of Article 222 (“illegal trafficking of firearms”).
