Russian President Vladimir Putin supports the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said while commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks about the need to halt strikes, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, although Putin is in favor of a ceasefire, several issues must be resolved before it can be implemented.
“President Putin truly supports the idea of the necessity of a ceasefire. However, a number of questions remain unanswered. These questions are still hanging in the air, and no one has addressed them yet,” the Kremlin spokesman stated.
Peskov explained that the main concerns involve the lack of control by Ukrainian authorities over certain extremist and nationalist groups that do not obey Kyiv: “It’s also related to Kyiv’s future militarization plans. All these nuances remain on the agenda,” he added.
