"Russia has expressed disappointment that, despite reports of progress in US-Iran negotiations, the situation has clearly escalated to the level of aggression," said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
He added that Russia continues to maintain contact with the leadership of countries affected by the conflict in the Middle East, including the Gulf states.
The Kremlin official stressed that there are currently no contacts with BRICS countries regarding Iran and noted that membership in the organization does not entail mutual assistance obligations in the event of aggression.
Peskov also said that President Vladimir Putin will hold an international phone conversation today regarding the situation around Iran.
