Researchers from the University of Würzburg in Germany have begun testing robots and spacesuits near the village of Armash in Armenia for possible future human flights to Mars, APA reports citing Bild.
According to German researchers, the topography of Armenia resembles the terrain of Mars, which is why they have chosen to conduct the testing there.
Two women and four men in complete isolation will be launching robots and testing new spacesuits.
The spacesuits are designed for the weather on Mars, where temperatures range from minus 133 degrees to plus 27 degrees.
The researchers participating in the testing are in constant contact with a control station created in collaboration with the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF) and the Armenian Space Agency. A radio delay of approximately 10 minutes has been artificially introduced to simulate the signal delay between Earth and Mars.
