France is unable to ensure the security of Armenia, which has recently been increasing military-technical cooperation with Paris, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, APA reports quoting TASS.

"It feels like Yerevan, turning towards France and increasing military-technical cooperation with it, simply does not realize the true intentions of the French so-called patrons, nor the risks of expanding their military presence in the region. They naively believe that France is ready or capable of ensuring Armenia's security," she said. "If France had such capabilities, it would have used them in those countries where it had contractual obligations and where it was obliged to do so because it was paid for it," she added.

According to Zakharova, the story of Russia's acquisition of Mistral-class amphibious assault ships is one of the evidences of the unreliability of the French as partners.

"Unfortunately, the current French authorities are not guided by Armenia’s interests, it is obvious, nor by the interests of the Armenian people. They are guided by their wounded geopolitical ambitions, anti-Russian attitudes. The future of Armenia and the entire South Caucasus is just a tool for Paris, a bargaining chip, one of the ways of maintaining its own well-being, preserving its reputation, including against the background of the hybrid war with our country," the spokeswoman added.

Zakharova once again stressed that France's presence in the South Caucasus is an attempt to gather information, monitor the countries of the region and prevent the implementation of the peace agreements reached between the countries.
