Former President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has been charged with particularly large-scale bribery and participation in illegal entrepreneurial activity, APA reports citing the Armenia Today portal.
The investigation established that during his time in office as Minister of Defense, Prime Minister, President, and later again as head of government between 2000 and 2018, Sargsyan, despite the legal prohibition on public officials engaging in entrepreneurial activity, used his official position to establish commercial entities through trusted individuals.
Among these enterprises was a bitumen plant located in the Ararat region, which was built with foreign investment.
The portal also reports that the criminal case has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Court for consideration.
