Judge S. Dadoyan of the Anti-Corruption Court has approved the investigators’ motion to place former President Robert Kocharyan, who stands accused of money laundering and bribery during the years of his presidency, in pre-trial detention, the Anti-Corruption Committee has said, Armenpress reports.

Kocharyan is charged with three counts of abuse of official powers, two counts of accepting a particularly large bribe, and four counts of particularly large-scale money laundering.

His eldest son, Sedrak, is also remanded in pre-trial detention following their arrest earlier this week. They deny wrongdoing.

The ex-president is accused of abusing his official powers to transfer state-owned property to himself and associates on favorable terms, accepting large bribes, and laundering the proceeds.

Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan was hospitalized again approximately seven hours after the court hearing began, Yerevan Today reports.

Robert Kocharyan’s son, Levon Kocharyan, told journalists outside the courthouse that doctors considered it appropriate for his father to remain in hospital rather than in the courtroom.

“The court hearing is continuing. Doctors considered it appropriate for him to be in hospital rather than in the courtroom. The lawyers will continue the case. I think the court will make a decision by morning,” Levon Kocharyan said.

Note that on August 25, the head of Kocharyan’s office announced that the former president had been hospitalized from the building of the Anti-Corruption Committee.
