If European countries are given a seat at the negotiating table on the settlement in Ukraine, they will try to bargain for a ceasefire in order to rearm Kyiv, so there is no sense in allowing them to participate, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference, APA reports citing TASS.
"I don’t know what they (European countries - ed.) could do at the negotiating table. If their aim is to cunningly extract a deceptive truce while secretly preparing for continued war—true to their habits and nature—then why invite them at all?" Russia’s top diplomat asked rhetorically.
Lavrov highlighted how Europe had failed in its attempts to resolve the Ukraine crisis since 2014, particularly through the Minsk agreements, with France and Germany acting as guarantors.
