The head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA) confirms that they will no longer carry out missions at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border once the peace agreement with Azerbaijan is signed and ratified, APA reports.

Today on the air of Public Television of Armenia, in response to a remark that there is a clause in the initialed peace agreement that the two parties will not bring third-country forces to their border, Markus Ritter stated that they believe so, although it is not specifically stated that it is about EUMA, but they know that when the peace agreement is signed and ratified, EUMA’s need will no longer exist at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, but EUMA will continue to visit Armenia’s border communities.

As per Ritter, there is a mutual agreement that EUMA will continue its work and make visits to Armenia’s border communities.

Markus Ritter said that no incidents have been recorded since the Washington meetings.

Markus Ritter will soon conclude his work as the head of EUMA. But it is not yet known who will be the new head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia.

It should be noted that the said mission includes representatives from 25 EU member states and Canada.
