The European Union’s attempt to seize Russian assets is not theft, it is robbery, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference on the results of the year, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

According to him, theft is carried out secretly, whereas this is not hidden and therefore constitutes outright robbery by the EU.

Putin stressed that “it is not easy for the EU to make decisions on plundering other people’s money.”

“This is not just a blow to its image, it undermines trust in the eurozone,” the Russian president added.

He also noted that as a result, other countries would begin to fear for the safety of their gold and foreign exchange reserves.

Putin stated that Russia would defend its interests in court and seek a jurisdiction independent of political influence, adding: “Whatever they have stolen, they will have to return one day.”
