Armenia can buy natural gas from Azerbaijan again after political issues are resolved, said Hakop Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, at the Tbilisi International Silk Road Forum, APA's Georgia office reports.

The deputy minister said that during the Soviet era, Armenia received gas from Azerbaijan through three large gas pipelines, and now it is possible to restore these pipelines.

"I hope this will happen in the next few years. We had this kind of experience in the Soviet years. As I mentioned, we were buying gas from Azerbaijan, we had three huge gas pipelines from Azerbaijan, and now we can restore these pipelines if there is no political issue between our countries. We can also be a gas transport country from Azerbaijan to Europe, and the same applies to electricity. We are ready to build and restore these communications. This can change the energy diversification of the region," Vardanyan said.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that since Armenia is located in the center of the region, the opening of its borders with its Eastern and Western neighbors can create great opportunities. He said that Armenia can play a role in the transportation and export of electricity from Azerbaijan to Turkey, as well as in the opposite direction, and can export electricity to both countries. He added that Armenia is the shortest corridor for Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as for Georgia and Iran.
