Dagestan state secretary Magomed-Sultan Magomedov detained amid illegal privatization probe

State Secretary of the Republic of Dagestan of the Russian Federation, Magomed-Sultan Magomedov, has been detained, APA’s Russia bureau reports.

Searches were conducted today at his residence and more than 50 other locations.

The searches are reportedly being carried out as part of a criminal case related to the illegal privatization of “Dagneftebaza.”

According to local media, the specific subject of the crime has not yet been determined, and the results of the investigation will clarify this.

“For now, the issue concerns the illegal privatization of ‘Dagneftebaza’ and the legalization of profits obtained from the oil depot’s operations after its privatization in 2005. Everything is being seized. A claim has already been filed regarding this. The searches being conducted at the residences and workplaces of individuals close to Dagestan’s State Secretary, Magomed-Sultan Magomedov, are only the first stage of operational-investigative actions. FSB officers are focusing not only on the current owners of the privatized ‘Dagneftebaza,’ but also on those who assisted in its privatization, including its founders and former owners,” local Dagestani media reported.

Note that Magomedov has held the position of State Secretary of Dagestan since 2021.
