President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President of the European Council António Costa, who is paying his first official visit to Kazakhstan, APA reports, citing the Press Service of the President of Kazakhstan.

Tokayev emphasized that the visit coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the signing of the “Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement” between Kazakhstan and the European Union carries symbolic significance.

“We attach special importance to your visit. It is yet another proof of our mutual readiness to further expand comprehensive cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union. We have established a strong and substantive partnership based on mutual respect and understanding. Our political dialogue is dynamic and is developing across many areas of mutual interest,” Tokayev said.

Costa highlighted the high dynamics of Kazakhstan–EU relations and noted the EU’s readiness to further deepen comprehensive cooperation:

“Over the past ten years, the European Union has been Kazakhstan’s largest trading partner and foreign investor. At the same time, Kazakhstan, which has risen to third place in oil and uranium supplies, plays an important role in ensuring Europe’s economic security. It is clear that today we are entering a new stage in strengthening our relations and developing economic ties.”

Costa added that cooperation with Central Asian countries is an important element for developing relations and ensuring practical progress in today’s modern multilateral world. In this context, he highly appreciated President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s personal efforts in strengthening peace in the South Caucasus.

According to him, ensuring security in the region opens new opportunities for the development of the Trans-Caspian Corridor, which will connect Europe through the South Caucasus and the Black Sea.
