Baza editor-in-chief Gleb Trifonov arrested

The Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow has remanded in custody the editor-in-chief of the Telegram channel Baza, Gleb Trifonov, accused of giving a bribe by a group of people by prior agreement, for a period of 1 month and 27 days, APA reports citing TASS.

"The court granted the investigator's motion and chose a preventive measure for Gleb Aleksandrovich Trifonov in the form of detention for a period of 1 month and 27 days," the court ruling states.

Trifonov stated that he did not commit the crime for which the investigation accused him and asked the court to choose a preventive measure for him that did not involve imprisonment.

Trifonov's lawyer, Alexei Mikhalchik, said that the defense will appeal the arrest.

"We categorically disagree with the petition of the investigative bodies, so we will appeal the arrest of Gleb Trifonov," the lawyer said. Mikhalchik added that Trifonov will now be sent to the Kapotnya pretrial detention center, and from there to the Matrosskaya Tishina pretrial detention center.
