The head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has demanded a report on the situation in the investigation of the criminal case against Azerbaijanis in the Sverdlovsk region, Russian Investigative Committee said, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
It was reported that Bastrykin instructed Andrey Nadbitov, acting head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Sverdlovsk region, to prepare a detailed report on the situation.
It should be noted that on the morning of June 27, an operation was carried out in more than 10 apartments where Azerbaijanis lived in Yekaterinburg. Most members of the Safarov family, originally from Aghdam, were arrested. During the operation, two brothers - Ziyeddin and Huseyn Safarov - were killed, and many Azerbaijanis were detained. Several people were hospitalized.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the incident, demanding that Russia clarify the issue. In addition, on June 28, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan, Pyotr Volokovikh, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.
A strong protest was expressed to the Russian side regarding the raids carried out by Russian security forces on June 27, 2025, in the apartments where our compatriots lived, in which two Azerbaijanis were brutally killed, several people were seriously injured, and nine people were arrested.
