Azerbaijani MP Khalid Boyukaga Tagizadeh from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation has been stripped of his position as deputy chairman of the Social Development Committee of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra Duma, APA’s Russia bureau reports, citing the official press release by the parliament.

It was reported that Khalid Taghizade stated migrants (especially Uzbeks) have come to the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug as their “historic homeland.” The deputy based his view on the fact that Kuchum, the ruler of the Siberian Khanate defeated by the Russian army, was Uzbek.

According to Boris Khokhryakov, chairman of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug parliament, Khalid Tagizadeh violated the rules of MP ethics and damaged the authority of the state power. As a result, the Social Development Committee decided to terminate Khalid Tagizadeh’s powers as deputy chairman of the committee.

Parliamentarians also decided to demand an open apology from their colleague, publicly reproach him, and inform voters about the incident through the mass media.

It was noted that Leonid Mikhalko, chairman of the regulation and ethics commission of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug Duma, also requested the district prosecutor’s office to assess Khalid Tagizadeh’s actions for compliance with federal legislation.

At the same time, Boris Khokhryakov noted that currently, MPs do not have the right to prematurely revoke Khalid Tagizadeh’s MP powers, as violations of ethical norms are not grounds for such a decision according to the law.

A few days after his speech in the regional parliament, Khalid Tagizadeh apologized on social media. He said that he did not intend to distort historical facts. It is reported that he has left Russia.
