Azerbaijani lawyer Alakbar Garayev has been detained in Russia and has been sentenced to 2 months in pretrial detention, according to information obtained by APA.
Russian law enforcement agencies detained Garayev in the city of Krasnoyarsk along with two of his acquaintances.
The information of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia noted that Garayev was detained on suspicion of fraud.
He is suspected of committing fraud on a particularly large scale under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia (attempted fraud committed by an organized group). The lawyer has already been sentenced to 2 months in pretrial detention by a court decision.
It was alleged that Alakbar Garayev and his acquaintances received a bribe from Vladimir Yegorov, president of the Sibiryak Construction Company (the largest builder in the Krasnoyarsk Territory).
Interestingly, Yegorov himself is currently under house arrest on fraud charges.
