Armenia’s defense spending has increased by $1.1 billion compared to 2018, Armenia’s Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan said at a press conference held today, APA reports, citing Armenpress.

He said that 2025 has been significant in terms of reforms in the defense sector, noting that reducing the term of military service to 1.5 years is one of the key turning points.

The defense minister also noted that steps are being taken to improve discipline in the army.

Suren Papikyan denied reports that the Ministry of Defense has fully purchased new uniforms for the army.

It should be noted that starting from January 1, 2026, conscripts in Armenia will serve for 1.5 years. Previously, the mandatory military service term was two years.
