There is no church-state conflict, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a briefing today, APA reports citing Armenpress
He noted that "there is a person who usurped the power of the church."
"We will take all permissible legal measures to remove him from his unworthy position," Pashinyan stressed.
Armenia’s Prime Minister has accused Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II of breaking his vow of celibacy. Pashinyan said that if it turns out that Karekin II indeed violated his vow of celibacy and has a child, he will not be able to remain Catholicos of All Armenians.
Clergy, in turn, accuse Armenia’s Prime Minister of launching an anti-church campaign.
