“Armenia and the United States are preparing a document that outlines the strategic framework of the ‘Trump Route’ project, which both sides must accept in some format, after which the next stage will begin. My forecast remains unchanged: work on the ‘Trump Route’ project will begin in the second half of 2026," said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, APA reports, citing Armenpress.
The prime minister believes that the first work to be carried out within the framework of the “Trump Route” project will be the construction of a railway: “I assume that the railway will be the first project, although I do not exclude that the economic feasibility and investment attractiveness will become somewhat clearer and the gas or oil pipeline project will have to be implemented earlier. I am not hinting at anything, but I want to say that the process is dynamic, and depending on certain circumstances, the need for an oil or gas pipeline may become a higher priority. However, at this stage, in our view, the railway is the priority. The advantage of the railway is that its route is clear, as the railway already existed in this section.”
Pashinyan also noted that the Armenian government is working on the procurement of advanced equipment for modern border and customs infrastructure to be applied not only at the Armenia–Azerbaijan border, but also at the Armenia–Georgia, Armenia–Iran, and Armenia–Türkiye borders.
