An Armenian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter has been detained in Moscow for carrying an illegal firearm, APA’s Russian bureau reports.
The individual, identified as 33-year-old Mikhail Allahverdyan, was stopped by traffic police in a Cadillac Escalade with the license plate 007 in the early hours of May 5, according to the Telegram channel “Sport Baza.”
During the document check, officers noticed a suspicious leather bag behind the driver's seat. Allahverdyan claimed the bag contained documents. However, upon opening it, police found a firearm. Allahverdyan reportedly told the officers that he had found the gun on the street and was planning to turn it in.
Upon inspection, the officer discovered that the pistol’s barrel had been shortened and the channel modified. An investigative team was dispatched to the scene, and the weapon was sent for forensic analysis.
Although Allahverdyan has been temporarily released, a criminal case has been opened against him for illegal possession of a firearm.
