According to the information, he said this on March 19 when the parliament discussed the ratification of the agreement on the status of the European mission in Armenia.

The MP of opposition “Hayastan” fraction Manukyan Gegham said that in accordance with the document, the representatives of non-EU countries may also be included in the mission, but there is no clause regarding the approval of candidates by Armenia.

“"If the EU is given such an opportunity, then can the mission include an observer from Türkiye or Albania? Can Armenia control the number of observers?” – Manukyan asked.

The Deputy Minister as he submitted the draft law said as an answer that an agreement on this issue is reached through political dialogue. He mentioned the involvement of the Canadian representative in the mission as an example.

Mnatsakan Safaryan added that the number of representatives of mission is also discussed and this is a mandatory point for the parties.

Safaryan said that 37 EU military and civilian missions are operating around the world since 2003. Currently, 21 (12 civilian, 9 military) missions are operating.

Note that in accordance with the agreement, observer status will be close to diplomatic status, observers will have legal immunity to perform their monitoring functions.
