Armenian Deputy PM: The next area for border delimitation with Azerbaijan has not yet been discussed

I am sure that Azerbaijan will ratify the regulation of the State Commission on the delimitation of the state border," said Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Mher Grigoryan, APA reports citing Armenian media.

"The process of ratification of the regulation of the border delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan is proceeding synchronously. I just don't know at what phase that process is in Azerbaijan. Along with the signing of the document, it is logical that its approval should be carried out in parallel. I have no doubt that the regulation will be ratified by Azerbaijan," Grigoryan emphasized.

He added that even if one party refuses to ratify, the document will come into effect immediately after the exchange of the original version between the officials of both countries.

According to him, the regulations will provide the necessary legal framework for the activities of the Commission on the Delimitation and Demarcation of Borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to him, this process should be carried out in a consensus environment.

Referring to the fact that the meetings of the tripartite commission on the unblocking issue are not continuing, the Armenian deputy PM said: "There are fundamental issues on which there should be a consensus. Until there is no consensus, it just makes no sense to continue discussing the details."

The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia also added that, for now, the parties have not discussed which section of the border the next stage of delimitation will take place: “The next area for delimitation has not yet been discussed. Principles for selecting the areas have not been established. I believe this issue should be resolved through consensus.”

He emphasized that while there are risks in this matter, it is extremely important to take the steps outlined in the legal framework: “We have agreed not to return to areas where the border delimitation process has been completed. Because the complexity of the process could lead to chaos.”
