The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is currently calm, but the armed forces will serve in a reinforced regime during the New Year holidays, said Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan in his statement to journalists, APA reports.
According to Papikyan, there is currently no reason for concern. He noted that the main difficulties faced by the Armenian Armed Forces are not related to security, but to weather conditions. Strong winds and blizzards create additional difficulties for the organization of service, since roads leading to positions in mountainous areas are closed in the winter months.
The minister emphasized that some positions of the Armenian army are located at an altitude of up to 3,500 meters above sea level, and snow has been falling in those areas since October. Therefore, all necessary measures are being taken to clear the roads and ensure uninterrupted communication.
