Armenia is trying to shift responsibility for the possible withdrawal of the Russian military base from the country onto Moscow, Mikhail Kalugin, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Fourth Department for CIS Countries, told RIA Novosti, APA reports.
According to him, Yerevan is trying to present the issue as though it was Moscow that initiated discussions on the future operation of the Russian military base in Armenia.
“Armenia's ruling elite often expects the most important decisions to be made by external players,” Kalugin said.
It should be noted that discussions over the future of Russia's 102nd military base in Gyumri have recently come to the fore.
