Criminal proceedings have been launched against four former corps commanders of the Armenian army in connection with the March 1 events, Armenpress reports.
According to the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office, the former commanders — Poghos Poghosyan, Valeri Grigoryan, Haykaz Baghmanyan, and Levon Yeranosyan — are accused of abuse of official authority and causing grave consequences.
According to the investigation, they carried out unlawful orders and assisted former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan and other high-ranking officials accused in the March 1 case, including former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, and Yuri Khachaturov, in exceeding their official powers.
The Prosecutor General’s Office claims that the activities of these individuals are linked to unlawful actions committed during the events of March 1, 2008.
Note that the March 1 case was opened in connection with the dispersal of mass protests following Armenia’s 2008 presidential election, which resulted in fatalities.
