Spokesperson for the “Strong Armenia” party, Marianna Ghahramanyan, told reporters that 15 individuals have been detained and one person has been formally charged, the country’s Anti-Corruption Committee stated, Armenian media reports.
“The accusation is again the same – alleged violation of the prohibition on charity. This is already a recurring script. The authorities are attempting to create the impression that the ‘Strong Armenia’ party is engaging in illegal activities through charitable actions,” she said.
It should be noted that earlier, members of the “Strong Armenia” party, Goar Gumashyan and Verjine Stepanyan, had been detained on charges of violating the ban on charity in force after the announcement of parliamentary elections. They were later released under administrative supervision.
