108th meeting of CIS Economic Council was held in Moscow

The 108th meeting of the CIS Economic Council was held in the Russian capital, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

A wide range of issues related to the development of economic cooperation between the CIS countries were discussed at the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Khokim Kholikzoda. Azerbaijan was represented at the event by First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov.

Armenia did not send a high-level delegation to the meeting of the Economic Council. Thus, official Yerevan was represented at the meeting by Ambassador to Belarus Razmik Khumaryan.

The meeting discussed the main areas of the economic agenda, including transport integration, tariff policy, preparation of a statistical database and improvement of regulatory mechanisms for cooperation. A draft concept for the integration of the main transport arteries passing through the territories of the CIS countries was presented during the meeting. The document aims to create an integrated transport system that ensures safe, fast and efficient movement of goods. The participants noted that the implementation of this concept will significantly reduce logistics costs and increase the competitiveness of regional routes.

In addition, information was provided on the progress of the "Development of CIS Statistics" project. The participants were informed about the creation of a modern information and analytical system that will allow for an in-depth analysis of socio-economic processes in the countries of the Commonwealth. It was noted that the availability and consistency of statistical data are important for the preparation of coordinated economic policy decisions.

The meeting also approved the draft Strategy for Congress and Exhibition Activities of the CIS until 2030. The document identified priority areas for the development of the exhibition industry, the formation of a single congress space and the promotion of joint events that contribute to the strengthening of business ties between countries.

The meeting participants approved an action plan dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States and aimed at the development of interstate cooperation and the promotion of the activities of the CIS.

Following the meeting, it was decided to hold the next, 109th meeting of the CIS Economic Council on April 3, 2026, in Moscow, in conjunction with the CIS International Economic Forum entitled "35 Years of the CIS: Development of the Greater Eurasian Partnership."
